Some 80 people were injured early Friday (November 29) when a high-speed ferry traveling from Hong Kong to Macau hit an unidentified object in the water, Hong Kong' marine department said. There were no reports that anyone was missing.
The ferry was carrying 105 passengers and 10 crew members when the collision occurred at around 1:20 a.m. (1720 GMT) of Hei Ling Chau island. The impact threw the vessel upwards and ejected passengers from their seats.
Of the 80 or so people injured at least four sustained serious injuries.
The ferry was towed back to Hong Kong's Sheung Wan terminal following the collision, where paramedics were standing by to treat those who were injured.
The safety of Hong Kong's waters was called into question following another collision that occurred at sea on October 1 of last year, where dozens were killed.
