Taiwanese abducted in Malaysia, family receives ransom call from the Philippines

A Taiwanese businessman and his girlfriend were attacked by a Philippino terrorist group, Abu Sayyaaf, in Malaysia last week. At the Pom Pom Island resort, 57-year-old Hsu Lu Min was shot dead and his girlfriend, 58-year-old Chang An-wei, was kidnapped. Taiwanese Interior Minister Lee Hong-yuan confirmed that the family has received phone calls from the Philippines demanding a ransom. A rescue mission has been undertaken jointly be the Philipino and the Malaysian police forces. Chang is said to be alive, but her family is concerned about her health condition since she suffers from diabetes and arthritis.
