Two boys steal semi truck with cops in hot pursuit

Two runaway teens are accused of stealing a tractor-trailer in Morristown, Tennessee early on Wednesday morning and then leading police on a chase through three counties before crashing in Knoxville.

Authorities from the Morristown Police Department said the two boys, ages 12 and 14, stole the truck from Universal Forest Products after breaking into the business in the middle of the night. The boys found the keys still in the truck. The 12-year-old then got in the drivers seat and the two proceeded to smash through the chain link gate.

Police noticed the truck when it hit the curb at Hardee's on Morris Boulevard, and began pursuit initially thinking that it was a drunk driver. The boys then sped down Highway 11-E through Jefferson County on the way Knoxville. New Market Police put down spike strips near Jefferson Memorial Hospital to stop the kids, but they spikes were only able to puncture one tire.

Authorities chased the truck into Knoxville. The 12-year old crashed on Asheville Highway near Rutledge Pike after he lost control of the semi when trying to take the exit ramp. The boys knocked over a light pole before coming to a stop.

The boys were from Holston Homes in Greeneville, and were in Morristown for a counseling session, which they ran away from.

Both teens were taken to the Juvenile Holding Center in Morristown. They were arrested and each face 10 separate charges, including a felony.
