Sylvester Stallone announced Harrison Ford would replace the departing Bruce Willis in 'The Expendables 3' in a series of tweets on Tuesday.

Bruce Willis indeed proved to be 'expendable' after he demanded too much money during contract negotiations for the next installment of the lucrative action movie franchise.

According to a source cited by the Hollywood Reporter Willis was allegedly offered $3 million to reprise his role as CIA agent Mr Church for four days of work shooting in Bulgaria. The Die Hard star, however, threatened to drop out of the project unless he was given $4 million.

Stallone and others involved in production scoffed at the Willis' "million dollar a day" demands and Sly moved quickly to find a replacement.

"I think [Willis] was pretty surprised he was replaced within 72 hours by Harrison Ford — a better actor, a much nicer person and a more interesting direction for the film, said the insider cited by The Hollywood Reporter.""

Sylvester Stallone gleefully took to Twitter to announce his fellow ageing action star's departure. "WILLIS OUT . . . HARRISON FORD IN!!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!," he tweeted on Tuesday.

Rocky even managed to fit in a few jabs at his fellow ageing action star and former screen partner. "GREEDY AND LAZY . . . A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE," wrote Stallone, referring to Willis.

The franchise's next installment is set for release next August. Other newcomers to the series include the likes of Mel Gibson, Jackie Chan, Nicholas Cage and Wesley Snipes.
