Sydney is proposing to install an underground waste disposal system in Royston Street, Darlinghurst. The system proposed involves the use of giant underground bins to replace standard-sized bins in the streets.

It was reported that the new system will replace about 15 wheelie bins with five large 1100-litre bins underground. Three of them will be used to general waste and two for recycling, with an option to change depending on the amount of garbage and recycling needs.Rubbish are dumped to street-level chutes, which are attached to bins underground. The bins will then be transported to the surface by hydraulic lifts and emptied into garbage trucks.

The authority hopes to reduce clutter and beautify the small streets for local residents by installing the new system. The installation is planned for later this year.
