A drifting Chinese lantern was today blamed for a fire at a recycling plant near Birmingham that officials are calling the West Midlands' "largest fire", according to a BBC report.

CCTV footage seen by British police revealed a paper sky lantern floating toward the Jayplas recycling facility in Smethwick on Sunday night. The lantern landed on plastic bales at the plant, which contained 100,000 tonnes of plastic recycling material. Eight minutes later a raging fire started that a witness described as "like a scene from a movie". The inferno produced plumes of smoke that rose as high as 6,000 feet.
