Largest snake: A Florida man captured and killed a the largest python found in Florida recorded history on May 11. Leon was driving along a rural part of southeast Miami-Dade County on May 11, when he saw the python poking out of nearby brush. A former python owner himself, Leon got out of the car and grabbed the snake by the head, dragging it out of the bushes. His friends came to his aid when the snake coiled itself around Leon's leg, then he killed it with a small knife. Authorities weighed the snake at 128 pounds and found it measured 18 feet, 8 inches long.
