An Oklahoma police officer flipped his cruiser and crashed after he was shot in the head while in pursuit of an SUV with three people inside that fled a traffic stop Thursday evening.

Oologah Police Officer Charles Neil was grazed in the head when someone in the SUV opened fire along U.S. 169 in Rogers County, about eight miles south of the Kansas state line, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Dwight Durant said.

Neil crashed into a ditch and flipped his squad car. He was reportedly conscious as he was airlifted to a Tulsa hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Several police cars continued the chase and a man and woman were taken into custody when their Chevy Tahoe was eventually stopped by cops using spikes to blow out the tires in South Coffeyville.

Authorities found body armor and an assault rifle inside the SUV, the Tulsa World reported.

But a third suspect escaped, carjacked another vehicle and shot the driver before pulling away, South Coffeyville Police Chief Wade Lamb.

That victim's condition wasn't immediately clear.

A manhunt is now underway for the suspect, described as a Hispanic man around 30 years old, and considered armed and dangerous, according to FOX 23.

The suspect made it to Liberty, Kan., before crashing and fleeing on foot, cops said.
