In East Harlem, thousands demanded the release of Puerto Rican independence fighter Oscar López Rivera, who has been held in U.S. prisons since 1981. Protesters demanded that President Barack Obama realize the well-known political prisoner who is currently serving a 70-year prison term after being sentenced on charges including sedition and conspiracy. López founded a high-school and cultural center before the U.S. government arrested him. teleSUR
