The special commission of the Honduran congress charged with investigating corruption reports that its work is being hampered by numerous obstacles. Such hurdles, according to commission member Edgardo Casaña, include officials concealing evidence, the commission being unable to interview key actors, and its being denied access to necessary information. The Commission was created to investigate corruption in the country's Social Security Institute in which US$250 million was embezzled in 2012 and 2013. It has 20 days to investigate corruption cases from the past 10 years but thus far its progress has been slow. Many believe that saddling the commission with 11 additional cases was a maneuver to deflect it from its main focus. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
