The New York Times is shifting its resources to its London operation at the expense of its Paris bureau, a change blamed on France’s inflexible employment laws.
The newspaper has merged its London bureau with the London office of the International New York Times, while over in Paris departing staff are not being replaced.
The company has been in the French capital for almost 50 years after it bought a stake in the Paris Herald Tribune, which then became the International Herald Tribune. In 2013, it changed the newspapers’ name to the International New York Times.
