In the southern state of Oaxaca, community activists continue to turn to alternative forms of Media. For many the use of community radio has become their weapon of choice. Since 2013 the indigenous Zapotec community of Magdalena Teitipac has been resisting an open-air gold mine that threatens the town’s territory and communal life. Townspeople use the media as part of their defense and have formed an autonomous community radio station, but are facing government attempts to get them off the air.
