Like Guatemala, Honduras is also immersed in a corruption scandal involving the country's president. And as in the case of its northern neighbor, activists in Honduras also accuse the local U.S. Embassy of interfering in the country's internal affairs, in support of the president, in this case Juan Hernandez. U.S. meddling in Honduran politics was one of themes of last Friday's giant demonstration. Social movements are still waiting for a response from the U.S. Embassy to the charges, but Ambassador James D. Nealon has agreed to receive a delegation of protest movement leaders, which is unprecedented. Meanwhile, a new round of protests over the corruption scandal is planned for later this week.
