The area near Chandi Chowk in Delhi, India features distinctive bundles of exposed power lines along buildings and overhead. Plans have been in the works for years to place them underground.
Chandni Chowk in Delhi, India, is a well-known shopping destination for jewelry, fabrics, and souvenirs, but outside the market, another unique feature becomes highly visible.
The area has an unusually large number of exposed electrical wires hanging overhead.
Bundles of them are seen along the sides of buildings, tangled in alleyways, hoisted onto electrical poles, and stretched across intersections.
Plans have been in the works for years to bury all the wires underground, but administrative delays have hampered progress.
Most recently, the Union power ministry has decided to help move the project along as part of a larger redevelopment initiative.
