Greeks in last-ditch rally to stay in the eurozone

With Greece once again on a knife edge over whether it will leave the euro, thousands of people rallied in Athens on Thursday calling for the country to remain in the bloc.

Their protest, outside parliament, took place as a crisis meeting of eurozone ministers was underway in Luxembourg. The urgent talks ended with no deal.

In a recent opinion poll, 7 out of 10 Greeks want to keep the euro at all costs.

One Athens resident said: “I’ m here because, I want my country to stay in the eurozone. I have kids and grandchildren and I want them to have a future. Without the euro, they won’t.”

Another protester added: “I don’ t want to think about leaving the euro, I don’ t want to think about it. This will be a disaster not only for my generation, but for everyone. It s really dramatic.”
