Armed extremists from the Islamic State group, sometimes referred to pejoratively as DAESH, have been carrying out attacks in the city of Hasaka in northeastern Syria, but Syrian Army units have held off the attacks so far. There was also a suicide bomb attack near a Syrian Army checkpoint in the northwestern entrance to Hasaka. Some reports say that DAESH has taken control of an area south of the city of Hasaka and that clashes are continuing. Hazem Abdullah reports from Damascus for teleSUR.
