Government officials have revealed a conversation between opposition lawmaker Andres Paez and former colonel Mario Pazmiño in which they planned to cause violence and chaos during Thursday’s protests and occupy the Carondelet Palace by force. Violent actors in the marches would carry pepper spray and sticks with nails to attack police separating pro and anti government demonstrators.
