Despite the 1995 Dayton Accords, which formally ended three-and-a-half years of war in the Balkans, tensions remain as the region again faces the upheaval of nationalism and armed conflicts among different ethnic groups.
Ethnic diversity has contributed to a unique cultural development in the Balkans, but ongoing disputes have clearly shown that the future of the region is uncertain. Will this current crisis ever come to an end and will it have an irreversible impact on these countries’ bids to join the European Union?
Joining Chris Burns at the European Parliament to discuss these issues is Tonino Picula, a Croatian Socialist MEP and Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo.
Also on board is Rosa Balfour, a Senior Fellow on the European Programme of the German Marshall Fund and Croatian film director Dalibor Matanic.
