NEW YORK CITY — New York City mayor Bill de Blasio campaigned on a promise to end discriminatory policing. Key to that was reforming Stop and Frisk. In 2015 the NYPD has stopped one tenth as many people as they did in an average year before de Blasio was elected.
But 2015 is only half way over and violent crime is rising in New York City. Killings are up 20%, and rapes are up 8% since last year.
The city was shocked last week when three teens raped and robbed a woman they met at an internet cafe. Is the Big Apple returning to the bad-old-days of 2,000 murders a year during the crack epidemic?
Not quite yet, but if de Blasio doesn't want to see his New York go down the tubes the way it did under Koch, he should bring back Stop and Frisk.
