Burundi in crisis

Burundi is grappling with its worst crisis since 2005. There have been weeks of protests, a failed coup and clashes between rebel fighters and the army.

One voter told reporters what he most wants is security. “I want the country to be stable,” he said, “everyone should be protected and their safety guaranteed.”

Opposition parties boycott the vote

3.8 million people are eligible to vote in the election, which has been boycotted by the opposition.
