With the efforts of Sheikh-ul-Hadith Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muneer Ahmed Akhoon, NY State Senator has successfully passed the bill in Senate and Assembly to add Islam in the NY State Religious Corporation Law. Up till now there were 20 religions added in the list but Islam was not on the list.
One of the major benefits of this bill will be that Islamic religious clergy titles like Imam, Maulana, Mufti, Hafiz, Qari, Peer-e-Tariqat will be officially recognized by the government.
