Judges and lawyers in Honduras say the Supreme Court serves the interests of President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who has pressured it to end legal cases against his government and speed up trials against the political opposition. In the past two weeks 9 of the 15 Supreme Court judges say they have received pressure from the Executive Branch. A special council was created by the Hernandez administration to assist the judges, but is in fact another control mechanism. It is now impossible to speak of justice in Honduras, say critics.
