A very lucky escape: Astonishing moment pedestrian cheats death by strolling away from a bus stop seconds before speeding Range Rover destroys it in a crash CCTV footage shows a man getting off a bus at a stop in Dalston, London He lingers at the stop for around 20 seconds while surveying the timetable After a few more seconds he walks away, moments before a car crashes The pedestrian cheats death as the Range Rover destroys the bus stop

This is the astonishing moment a pedestrian cheated death after he walked away from a London bus stop just seconds before a speeding Range Rover ploughed into it.

CCTV footage captured the scene as the man surveyed the timetable at the bus stop on Kingsland High Street in Dalston, north-east London on Saturday morning.

But just seconds after deciding to walk away from the stop, a speeding white Range Rover Evoke crashes head on into the stop an a nearby bollard, completely destroying the vehicle.

It is understood the car had been attempting to overtake a black vehicle and swerved, losing control and ploughing into the bus stop.

Luckily nobody was injured although passers-by had to help the driver open the door of his car.

The clip begins showing the bus stop, which is directly outside organic health food store Harvest on Kingsland High Street.

The pedestrian can then be seen leaving the red double decker and lingering, appearing to consult the timetable and deciding on whether to wait for another bus at around 6am.

After 20 seconds, he then decides to continue his journey on foot and can be seen walking away down the street.

But just moments later, the Range Rover comes into shot and appears to lose control before crashing into the bus stop.

A large crowd of people then gather around the car, helping to free the driver.

A cyclist, who witnessed the incident, told the Evening Standard: 'Two cars were driving side by side, one completely lost control and smashed into a lamppost.

'[The] car swerved across the street. Was on my bike, would have been brown bread if I was 30 seconds earlier! Craziest thing I've ever seen.'

A spokeswoman from the Metropolitan Police confirmed that nobody was injured and that they were trying to trace the driver.

She added that officers attended the scene, but the car's driver had left before officers arrived.
