With the positivity of his message and the mystic energy of his music, Uwe Banton is a veteran of the European roots & culture scene. His interest in Jamaican music started while he was a teenager, in the late seventies, through the music Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear and Jacob Miller.
His first visit to Jamaica was in 1981. He soon decided he wanted to express himself through roots music and joined Movements, a ten-piece band with members from Africa, Germany and Jamaica. During his ten years with the band Uwe performed at the most important festivals in Germany and its neighbouring countries.
At the start of the millenium, he began his solo career, collaborating with the producer Ganjaman from Berlin. His first work “Jah Roots” was released in 2003, whilst his second album “Rightful Place” was not released for a further six years, and was one of the most beautiful roots albums from Europe at the time. In his latest album, “Mental War”, released in 2012, his maturity really shines through.
