and yes, i'm referring more to 'mainstream hip hop' as opposed to hip hop in general. i didn't stop listening to hip hop completely. i'm being honest though- i could never stand the depictions of hyper-masculine, misogynist, pro-destructive scenarios that framed their albums. my sister used to listen to them (and others like snoop doggy dogg) all the time. it used to make my blood boil.
