"When I was your age..." you say, beginning long-winded stories of your childhood of hard-knocks. You walked four miles to school in the bitter cold and never had cool video games to keep yourself entertained or the Internet to help write your research papers, right?

It's true, kids nowadays have it pretty good. They have a million options for entertainment, tons of resources to learn new things, and gadgets that make life's little annoyances so much easier.

But everything has its downside. Though we're grateful for technology, we'll never regret not having more of it growing up. Because if we'd had today's gadgets and gizmos back then, we would have missed out on family time watching TV together and fighting with our siblings over the remote, before the time of TiVo. Heck, we might not even know how to read an analog clock or read a map.

Here are some other ways technology has changes our lives for the better and for worse:

1. Passing notes has gotten a little easier... but gone is the thrill of covert note delivery

2. We've gone from the comfort of our cars... to the comfort of our pajamas

3. Good thing you no longer have to lick your fingers before you flip the page...

4. Road trips just aren't the same without getting lost or stopping to ask for directions...

5. The world is at our fingertips... and we can bypass the mean librarian

6. No more running to get into the picture before the timer goes off... behold, the "selfie stick"

7. We love taking all our music with us everywhere... but we miss the joy of hitting the rewind button

8. Sure, phone calls are more convenient... but now we walk around looking like we're talking to ourselves

9. Gone are the days of looking through the classifieds...although you'll see some pretty strange stuff on Craigslist

10. No, Abby couldn't help find the closest gas station... but Siri has her flaws too

11. Who needs to send words when you can send selfies?
