Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin lauded the PAS Youth's initiative in making the first move in welcoming constructive discussion between the two parties.
PAS Youth have shown that they are brave enough to defy the Pakatan Rakyat's leadership, when Pakatan has said that they didn't want any to hold any talks with Umno, he said.
Previously attempts to hold discussion between PAS and Umno at the central level were disrupted by PAS allies in Pakatan Rakyat (PR), he said.
Khairy was referring to the announcement made by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim last week reasserting that PAS was firm in its commitment to Pakatan Rakyat.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang PAS had stirred a whirlwind after suggesting that the Islamist party should strike a deal with its arch rival, Umno, in forming a unity government.
We would be doing disservice if we don't accept their request... it is a significant step they are taking, said Khairy.
The Rembau MP also expressed hope that discussions between the two parties will not be limited only to matters concerning Islam and the Malays.
