Over 20 inches of torrential rain fell on some parts of South Carolina and floodwater rushed through the streets of cities and towns, an event that Governor Nikki Haley described as 'a once in a millenium' level of rain. Rescue workers flying through the town of Huger by helicopter found a mother holding her 15-month-old baby on a rooftop, waiting for salvation. With no where else to turn, the mother and child were hoisted up into Coast Guard helicopter and whisked away to safety.
