At 16.00 Hrs today, the sirens resound in the borough of Landéda. Within a few minutes, the streets have been emptied, shop keepers have lowered their curtains, local people are taking shelter, strange atmosphere for a quiet afternoon...

The danger lays in the bottom of the nearby “ Angel’s Bay”, two bombs English of 150 kilos laid there undisturbed for more than one half-century until they were discovered during recent high tides. Local authorities have decided to move them out to sea to destroy them. A common operation for the divers of the Brest bomb disposal unit which always remains a perilous undertaking.

This evening the most dangerous of the two explosive devices was successful defused, the second phase of the operation will resume tomorrow afternoon.
