Under Argentine President Cristina Fernandez, funding for science and research has skyrocketed. Budget outlays doubled, salaries increased, and scholarships grew 400%. The creation of the Science and Technology Ministry in 2007 spurred such achievements. The scientific community is therefore concerned about a chance in priorities under a neoliberal government headed by Mauricio Macri, candidate of the right-wing PRO party in the November 22 presidential run-off elections.
