A lawyer was arrested and is now awaiting trial after saying during a live TV debate on CNN Türk, that the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were not terrorists but an 'armed political organization with large local support'. The lawyer was charged with spreading terrorist propaganda and is facing up to 7 years in prison. Political analyst and Middle East expert Bashdar Ismaeel says the Turkish government is using national security as a way to punish opponents.
