INDONESIA — A heartbreaking image showing the moment an abnormally thin orangutan and her starving baby are rescued is capturing the hearts and minds of the netizens this week.

Earlier this month an orangutan, named Mama Anti, and her baby had just escaped a forest fire when suddenly they came under attack from terrified villagers. After fleeing the flames and somehow happening upon the village, scared locals tried to tie the pair up and throw stones at them.

A team from the International Animal Rescue charity soon came to their aid and took them to safety, as well as the below image. They rehydrated Anti and her baby, before later releasing them into a protected forest.

The sad thing is any primates flee their homes in Indonesia and wind up near villages because of illegal fires. The problem of illegally-started fires has caused huge environmental and health problems for Indonesia.
