PARIS — New details have emerged about the identifies of the seven attackers and two suspected associates who carried out the deadly attacks in Paris last Friday.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Salah Abdeslam, who remains at large, is a French national living in Belgium. He was believed to be the logistics expert for the attacks. Abdeslam entered Austria from Germany with two other men on September 9, where he was reportedly stopped and questioned. Abdeslam allegedly rented two hotel rooms in a suburb in southeastern Paris and also rented a black Volkswagen Polo car that was used in the attacks.
Abdeslam's brother, Brahim Abdeslam, is also a French national living in Belgium. He rented a house in Bobigny, a town in northeastern Paris, a few days before the attacks. Authorities believe the house was used by the attackers as a logistics base. The two brothers were part of the team responsible for attacking the cafes and restaurants in Paris on Friday.
Bilal Hadfi, a French national living in Belgium, was one of the suicide bombers who attacked the Stade de France. Hadfi reportedly visited Syria early this year. Another man who attacked the Stade de France was found with a Syrian passport with the name Ahmad Almohammad. His identity has not yet been verified. Records show Almohammad entered Europe via the Aegean island of Leros on October 3. A third attacker at the stadium remains unidentified.
Ismail Omar Mostefai, a French national involved in the Bataclan concert hall attack, is believed have travelled to Turkey in 2013 and then to Syria. His accomplice in the Bataclan attack, Samy Amimour, is also a French national. Amimour had planned to go to Yemen in 2012 and is believed to have visited Syria in 2013. Two other attackers have not yet been identified. All four were responsible for killing 89 people at the concert hall.
Authorities believe Belgian national Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who is apparently in Syria, is the mastermind behind the attacks. Abaaoud was reportedly involved in a series of planned attacks in Belgium, which were foiled by police in January last year, Reuters reported.
