DEER LODGE, MONTANA — The puzzling disappearance of a Montana mother and son is one step closer to being solved after police found their bodies and a detained a person of interest.

Officers discovered the bodies of Beverley and Gregory Giannonatti in a private Deer Lodge dumpsite on Sunday evening, the Montana Standard reported.

According to the Washington Post, the two went missing after Beverley reportedly retrieved a gold bar worth around $500,000 from a cleaning lady, who found it at the 79-year-old's ex-husband's house, in October.

Beverley and her son were last seen on October 28. Beverley was sighted having lunch at a steakhouse, while her son was seen driving away from his home later that evening, the Montana Standard reported.

Police suspect someone broke into Gregory's home after someone reported seeing bags of clothes and a TV outside the residence last month. An investigation revealed that a cellphone and two weapons were also missing, the Washington Post reported.

Earlier this week, authorities detained and questioned David Nelson, whom they named as a person of high interest in the case. No charges have been made thus far, the Montana Standard reported.

According to the Washington Post, Nelson is in custody on a parole violation. The 53-year-old has previously served time for kidnapping and robbery. The gold bar remains missing.
