This week's #Empowerista is Barbie! The famous doll is making positive changes when it comes to diversity and inspiring girls towards empowering careers. The Barbie version of Selma's director, Ava DuVernay, sold out within minutes--proving there is quite the demand for dolls of color. Plus, the doll's maker, Mattel, took a new direction in 2015, promoting Barbie as a way for girls to imagine themselves becoming whoever they want. In general, our society is wisening up, realizing toys have the power to impact girls negatively or positively. Creator of #empowerista, Alex Wehrley, also features a couple more companies meeting girls in the playroom, hoping their empowering toys can help close the gender gap.
