PARADISE, CALIFORNIA — The police officer who shot and paralyzed a DUI suspect in Paradise, California after an accident that killed the man's wife will not face any charges, KRCRTV reported.

Andrew Thomas, 26, and his wife Darien Ehorn, 23, left Cateena bar in Paradise, California just before midnight on Nov. 25. Officer Patrick Feaster saw them driving without headlights on going between 50 and 60 miles per hour, KRCRTV reported. Feaster pursued the vehicle.

Dashcam footage from Feaster's squad car released by the Paradise Police Department shows the SUV flip over after hitting a median. As Thomas tries to crawl out of his vehicle's window, Feaster shoots him in the neck with his .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol.

According to KRCRTV, Feaster told responding officers that he accidentally fired his weapon. The police report said that Feaster initially took out his weapon because he thought Thomas might be trying to flee from a potential felony vehicular manslaughter.

Thomas is paralyzed from the neck down and remains at Enloe Medical Center. He will face charges of vehicular manslaughter by intoxication for the death of Ehorn.

Protesters are calling for Feaster to be fired. Feaster is on paid administrative leave. The police department says its internal investigation will take several weeks.
