ORLANDO, FLORIDA — Around 50 people were stuck 200 feet above the ground for several hours on Monday after the Sky Tower ride at Seaworld, Orlando malfunctioned.
Passengers said that the ride was descending when it suddenly started jerking before coming to a halt, leaving them stranded.
The roughly 50 passengers were then left in mid air for around three hours as theme park engineers tried to figure out what the problem was.
Maintenance crews eventually found that the emergency brakes had malfunctioned and were able to lower the ride to safety.
One of the stranded passengers later told a local news crew that most of the trapped passengers were not worried when the ride broke down, although one person had suffered a panic attack.
The Sky Tower, which has been open since 1973, takes passengers up to 400 feet up in the air.
