Veteran nationalist Afzal Khan Lala inaugurated the festival organised to promote healthy activities in the militancy-wrecked region. Col Abdul Majid, Major Atif and Major Waqas of Pak army were also present on the occasion. As many as 23 snow-skaters are participating in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Afzal Khan Lala said that the people of Swat were peace-loving but the terrorists had taken the entire valley hostage and made their life miserable.

He said that bomb attacks on mosques and funerals and slaughtering innocent people had nothing to do with Islam or its teachings.
The festival’s chief organiser, Matiullah Khan told Dawn that the event was being organised with the collaboration of the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that the skiing gala would attract tourists to the valley and help promote peace in the region.
