RAMADI / IRAQ — After weeks of intense fighting, Iraq's military has declared victory over the Islamic State in the Iraqi city of Ramadi. Backed by coalition air strikes, Iraqi troops regained control of the main government complex on Sunday.

The head of military operations in Anbar, Gen Ismail al-Mahlawi, told the Associated Press that retreating IS militants still control parts of the city. This is a devastating defeat for ISIS, who took control of Ramadi in May.

The news comes just one day after Daesh's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, released an audio message calling for all Muslims to join the fight. The responses were hilarious: Umar Aftab Butt said maybe next week. Hassaan Munir was a little too busy with Fallout 4. Aly Ashraf has finals this week. And Saadat Ali Zia went to Star Wars instead.
