Haitians took to the streets of their capital after a presidential run-off scheduled for Sunday, January 24, was cancelled at short notice. According to Reuters, the race was suspended when opposition candidate Jude Celestin of the Patriotic Unity Party pulled out over fraud allegations that have sparked rioting.
Celestin was due to go head-to-head with Jovenel Moise, who critics say has been favoured by outgoing President Michel Martelly. Martelly has described accusations of fraud as unfounded.
While Moise supporters rallied for the first time on Sunday, anti-government protesters gathered in downtown Port-au-Prince.
