MIAMI — A 99-year-old Miami woman had a rude awakening this week when an escaped pet kinkajou snuck into her bed, Local 10 News reported.

According to WISN, a kinkajou named Banana was caressing the woman's face before she screamed, scaring the animal away.

The kinkajou fled to the attic, and the woman contacted her friend Cathy Moghari to help with the unusual situation. Moghari figured the best way to coax the critter out of hiding was to play kinkajou sounds from a speaker and use cherries to lure Banana from her hiding place into a cage.

Banana was taken to the South Dade Avian and Exotic Animal Medical Center, where veterinarian Don Harris tranquilized her and gave the two-foot long mammal a clean bill of health.

The owner of the kinkajou, Raymond Fernandez, said he left Banana with his brother while his home was being tented, and she escaped from her cage. Banana was reunited with Fernandez on Wednesday.

Fernandez has plans to visit the elderly woman with Banana in tow, but they'll probably wait until she's awake this time, so she can spend some quality time with Banana.

According to National Geographic, kinkajous, also known as honey bears, can live up to 23 years in captivity. They can turn their feet around to climb up and down trees, where they spend most of their time.
