SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA — Pools of blood and a severed ear are just a few things police have revealed as evidence that a San Jose motorcycle salesman killed his co-worker.

Steve Hlebo, 39, was arrested for the murder of 28-year-old Kyle Myrick following the discovery of a bloody crime scene. Hlebo denies the charges, claiming that he had been framed, and is currently being held without bail.

On Jan. 22, the police responded to a welfare check on the 2000 block of Camden Avenue, near GP Sports motorbike shop where Hlebo and Myrick worked. According to the San Jose Police Department, officers were told an adult male was missing for hours under "suspicious circumstances."

In a detailed report, police recounted witness Peter Diaz's statement. Diaz, who made the 911 call, is another co-worker, who became concerned for Myrick's welfare when he had sent him to assist Hlebo and couldn't find him afterward.

According to the report, Diaz had sent Myrick to a rear lot that was under lock-and-key control by Hlebo. At one point Diaz noticed the gate locked and the suspect's truck, a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup in the lot, near a vacant building that had burned down over a year ago. When questioned, Hlebo gave Diaz a "nonsensical answer." Hlebo also told Diaz that he didn't want to go into the burned building because there were "ghosts in there."

Myrick was nowhere to be found.

An investigation of the crime scene led to the discovery of blood splatter on walls, blood stains on the floor with a trail leading to the back door of the building and a human ear in a pool of blood on the floor.

Investigators arrested and interviewed Hlebo, who claimed he had been involved in a fight with Myrick. And contrary to statements he made in court, according to the report, Hlebo later told a family member he had killed his co-worker and disposed of the body in the ocean.

Hlebo is scheduled to appear in court again in mid-February.
