HERRIN, ILLINOIS — Last year, Girl Scouts in Washington refused a $100,000 donation that came with a no-transgender-support caveat. Now one little trooper has again championed the cause by fighting back the girl scout way- with cookies.
Buzzfeed reports that Stormi, a transgender girl scout from Herrin, Illinois, set out to sell cookies last month with her foster mom, Kim.
After selling over 60 boxes door-to-door, she was turned away by one man who told her: nobody wants to buy cookies from a boy in a dress.
The nine-year-old was understandably sad. But she wasn't going to let her bully win, and so moved her cookie enterprise online. On Sunday, January 24, Stormi started selling through Digital Cookies, the Girl Scouts' online portal.
In no time, supporters rallied around the little girl's cause, with orders pouring in from as far away as Australia. One New York improv duo even offered fans free admission to a show if attendees presented a proof of purchase for Stormi's cookies.
By Thursday, Stormi's Cookie World had sold more than 3,000 boxes of Girl Scout treats.
But more than that, the outpouring of support has motivated the little girl scout to fight against discrimination, now that she knows she's fine the way she is.
