After primary school he went to the Piran Maritime High School, from which he graduated in 1961. As he was born in a musical family (his father a conductor of a military band, a musician uncle) and a small Lado soon entered the world of music and showbiz, he was a member of children's music and drama groups. Already 1951 performance in a supporting role in the then big blockbuster Kekec. For education in Piran, started performing at the youth dance parties with the school orchestra. Since 1958, entertains tourists as a professional singer in the hotel terraces Portoroz. The first single plate I was younger than you (I was younger than you) recorded in 1963, the same year won the Festival song in the Slovenian town of Bled, the song is seldom meet (seldom encountered). Then follows the greatest success Lade Leskovara the former Yugoslav showbiz victory at the festival in Opatija in 1964 with the song Look me in the suburbs, Zdenka Runjić and Drago Britvic. This song has brought Ladi great popularity, followed by Lado is a welcome guest of the then popular music festivals and television, goes to numerous tours as part of singing team. Lado Leskovar represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1967 in Vienna by singing the song All the flowers of the world (Urban Koder, Milan Lindič) and was eighth out of 17 participants.
