Her first appearance was on August 9th 1930, on the popular Talkartoon cartoon series. Today she is featured on a wide range of merchandise from gift bags and collectibles to earrings and even fancy dress costumes. \r
Its Bettys flirtatious persona that really boosted her popularity. She was the first strong, powerful woman figure on TV before Madonna and Marilyn Monroe came along. She actually started out less human like when she was first created. Over time she transformed into the ually charged woman we know and love today. \r
She became so popular after her first initial appearances that she even got her own series. There was a lot of criticism in the 1930s that Betty Boop was too y. Those opposed to her flirtatious character even tried to get her famous Boop-oop-a-doop taken away. Luckily they failed and the catchphrase lived on. \r
While Bettys reign came to an end in the late 1930s, her legacy still continues today. She may be a cartoon character, but theres no denying shes one of the worlds best knownsymbols.
