Motorists in the wealthy nation of Qatar took tremendous surprise Monday when they saw a tiger prowling between vehicles on a busy road.
Police said they observed a videotape that circulated in social networks where the tiger is moving between cars in the capital, Doha. Other images show a man in traditional white robe holding the cat with a string, indicating that he was captured.
Some wealthy Arabs in Qatar and other Gulf states breed big cats as a status symbol even though the practice is prohibited.
A lion escaped from its owner's residence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and was captured in a residential neighborhood. In Kuwait, a man was sued in 2014 when his lion escaped and attacked a Filipino maid.
