Starship Troopers is Paul Verhoeven’s satirical military sci-fi action film loosely based on the book of the same name, but it was a theatrical flop. So is it as bad as you the box office numbers suggest?
With stars like Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon, Clancy Brown, and Michael Ironside and a $105 million budget, how could a movie fail? Well this 1998 cross genre alien invasion flick is either one of the best or one of the worst movies of the 90s. It seems neither reviewers nor audiences knew what to think of the film, yet it’s managed to achieve cult status for many who have seen it. Though its domestic gross only reached half its budget it still led to a surprising number of sequels, so did it get a bad rap? The Cinefix team is going to try to figure out if Starship Troopers is worth watching so you know if you should give it a second chance.
Have you seen Starship Troopers? What do you think of it? Have we convinced you to give the movie a second chance? What movies do you think got a bad rap and deserve another look?

There are a lot of reasons we won’t go see a movie or that we’ll refuse to re-watch it. Sometimes we skip movies because of bad reviews, sometimes we have bad memories of them from our childhood, and sometimes we just assume we won’t like it. Whatever the reason may be there are some movies that are worth giving a second chance to and we’re going to tell you why. Welcome to Second Chances!
