Craig Hall scored two minutes from time to give Wakefield Trinity Wildcats their first victory at Headingley since 2007.

The Wildcats went into Monday's clash buoyed by Friday's win over Huddersfield Giants and they backed that up with another impressive performance to claim a well-deserved 20-16 win.

It meant a sixth defeat in eight games for Leeds Rhinos as they continue to struggle in defence of their First Utility Super League crown.

Matty Ashurst crossed for the visitors before Joel Moon scooped up the loose ball from Zak Hardaker's grubber to score.

Wakefield led at the break courtesy of Liam Finn's penalty, but Leeds started strongly in the second period only for Hardaker to be held up over the line.

Wakefield punished the hosts when Tom Johnstone offloaded for Miller to race clear, and Finn added the extras to make it 14-6.

That lead did not last as a high Hardaker kick bounced for Kallum Watkins, who passed off the floor for Tom Briscoe to touch down.

Scott Moore was sin-binned for offside following a brilliant tackle by Johnstone to deny Hardaker a certain try, and Leeds' pressure finally told as Mitch Achurch jinked his way over and Liam Sutcliffe converted to put the Rhinos in front for the first time.

But 12-man Wakefield got back on level terms when Finn slotted over a simple penalty, Moore returned to boost the Wildcats, and Hall pounced on a dropped ball by Ash Handley to race 80 metres to score.

Chris Chester hailed Wakefield’s character and resilience after they made it back-to-back wins.

“I’m really proud,” said the Wildcats head coach.

“We had to tough it out in the second half and I thought we were worthy winners.

“We were unlucky to go in at half-time leading 8-6, but we toughed it out and got a fantastic win.

“I think it’s the first time this club has won two games over Easter so I’m really proud of everybody from one to 17.

“We showed a lot of character and resilience in the second half. We found a way to win the game with a special play from Craig Hall to go the full length.”

Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott has challenged his players to come through this tough period.

“There are some obvious things that are not there for us,” he said.

“I know what’s wrong and we know what’s wrong, but going out there and executing that is a different matter. That’s what makes sport really interesting.

“It’s not slide rules and science. If we just pressed a few buttons and all of a sudden people started playing well and with confidence, we’d all be coaches.
