Maritime India Summit 2016
On 14 April 2016 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maritime India Summit 2016 (MIS 2016). The two-day summit was held in Mumbai.
Maritime India Summit 2016 is an initiative of the Ministry of Shipping & Government of India.
By this, the PM invited investors to come to India.
The Summit showcased investment opportunities in;
• Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Ship Recycling
• Port Modernization and New Port Development
• Port-based Industrial Development, Port-based Smart Cities and Maritime Cluster Development
• Hinterland Connectivity Projects and Multi-Modal Logistics Hubs
• Inland Waterways and Coastal Shipping for Cargo and Passenger movement
• Dredging
• Lighthouse Tourism and Cruise Shipping
• Renewable Energy Projects in Ports
• Other Maritime Sector related services (Financing, Legal, Design etc.)
Union Government reconstituted IGNCA Trust
Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is a government-funded arts organization in India, and an autonomous institution under the Union Ministry of Culture.
On 14 April 2016 the Government of India reconstituted the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) Trust with immediate effect.
Senior Journalist Ram Bahadur Rai was selected as President of IGNCA.
Pepsi-Cola sign got landmark status in New York
On 13 April 2016 Iconic Pepsi-Cola sign on the banks of East River of New York was declared as a historic landmark. The sign got its status after 25 years of discussion.
The sign of Pepsi-Cola is 60 feet high and 120 feet long.
Susmita Pande appointed as chairperson of National Monument Authority
National Monuments Authority (NMA) is organised under Union Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Its headquaters are in New Delhi.
NMA is responsible for the protection and preservation of monuments and sites.
On 14 April 2016 Union Government appointed Susmita Pande as the new chairperson of the National Monument Authority (NMA).
She was a professor at Ujjain's Vikram University at the time of appointment.
Commercializing NEMHARI
NEMHARI is a plant based Formulation for Management of Mulberry Root Knot Disease.
It is a plant that was developed at Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSR&TI), Central Silk Board (CSB), Mysuru.
On 12 April 2016 National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) signed agreement with M/s Rainbow Agrilife India Private Limited.
The agreement has been signed for the purpose of commercializing the plant.
The initiative of NRDC promotes the “Make in India” Mission of the Government of India.
