Spanish third-tier player Javi Gómez scores outrageous 30-yard bicycle kick
Sometimes it takes a moment of genius to separate a tight game between promotion play-off hopefuls. That was certainly the case in the meeting of Spanish Segunda División B sides UD Socuéllamos and CD Toledo on Sunday afternoon – when a quite astonishing goal by the former’s Javi Gómez was enough to earn them a pivotal win.
Gómez, a 33-year-old striker who already had 13 goals to his name this season, jumped to control a long ball on his chest 20 minutes from time before launching himself into the air and scoring a remarkable overhead kick that no goalkeeper on earth could have set himself for.
The goal took Socuéllamos above Toledo and into the Group 2 play-off places with just three matches to play. It also elevated Gómez into the pantheon of long-range bicycle kick scorers – already peopled by luminaries like Trevor Sinclair, Mauro Bressan and, of course, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
